What Drives Human Behaviour?

Published on March 30, 2020 by Muhammad Sajwani

In times like these when we are confined to our homes due to COVID 19 and we have enough time to think through and reflect upon. So, let’s spare a few minutes and talk about this one of the key subjects.

Do we ever feel about having some kind of behaviour issues that we face and would like to change about ourselves? Do we want to help someone else change their behaviour towards us or others in a positive way? This may be our child, sibling, parent, spouse, colleague, a friend or even our boss.

In this article, we will try to discuss some of the recent studies that were conducted in different parts of the world that reveal something really important about what gets people to change their behaviour. Before we do that, let’s zoom in on one strategy that we  probably use a lot. Let’s take an example: You are trying to stop smoking. What and how you would convince yourself? Most people, in a monologue, will say: “Beware. Smoking Kills.” And if this was your child, you would probably tell him” How he is getting into a big trouble, therefore, he should get rid of this habit.” What are we trying to do here to scare ourselves and others into changing their behaviours.
